You will find weavings and embroidery from all parts of Guatemala in Antigua due to its being a tourist area, Different areas of the country are characterized by certain patterns and designs used in their textiles. However, all are alike in their use of bright colors. The clothing worn by the Indigenous is also different from place to place. Particular patterns and colors indicate to which group an individual belongs. Each group shares customs, beliefs, and values, as well as a culture transmitted from generation to generation. The wearing of these particular outfits indicates one's belonging to a particular group. Outfits are also decorated with symbols representing flora and fauna, as well as elements such as the sun, moon, lakes, rivers, and rain (which are part of a cosmic vision).
