Iximche

The first capital of Guatemala (Santiago de los Caballeros de Guatemala ), was founded in 1524 by the Spaniard, Pedro de Alvarado. It was located next to Iximch é , the Cackchiquel Indigenous capital, near the present-day town of Tecp á n . However, in 1526 conflicts with the Indigenous population forced the city to move to the valley of Almolonga (today near Ciudad Vieja).
